Welcome

The Latin American and Caribbean Studies program is an inter-disciplinary initiative that takes the Latin American and Caribbean region as its area focus.

Faculty and students come to the program with a diverse array of disciplinary skills and concentrations to which they also invest place-based knowledge about a specific geographical area.

LACS enjoys the active participation of researchers from the departments of Anthropology, Art History, Economics, French and Italian, History, Music, Political Science, Spanish and Portuguese and Women’s Studies within the College in addition to a number of professional schools, including the Goizueta Business School, the Nell Hodgson School of Nursing and the Rollins School of Public Health.

Associated faculty reflect a wide range of disciplinary skills and interests, some applied, like health and public policy, and others theoretical, like racial identity and nationalism.

Faculty affiliated in some way with LACS offer about 12-15 undergraduate classes annually on a wide array of subjects, from tango and tourism to slavery and the post-colonial novel.
